About the walk
The route follows the Southern Upland Way, leaving Lauder over Chester Hill with extensive views back over the town, Thirlestane Castle and the Lammermuir Hills. Passing Fordswell and Bluecairn the walk follows an ancient track,reputedly part of a Roman road, over Kedslie Hill affording wide views of Lauderdale, the Eildon Hills and the surrounding countryside. The route then crosses farmland before dropping down to Gattonside and a gentle riverside walk along the Tweed to the Chain Bridge into Melrose.
