New Zealanders, Christchurch performed the Haka before going on to defeat Glasgow Hawks in their opening Sevens tie. Two tries from flying winger Darryl Cochrane helped Christchurch into a half-tie lead, against Hawks.
Cochrane himself converted the first, and Spida Hunter converted the second. In between, Hawks were awarded a penalty try, which Nicky Barret converted.
Christchurch pulled clear in the second half. Hunter went over first, and Jed Fraser converted before Alex Davis went over and Fraser converted again.
Hawks responded with a try from Barret, which was not converted.
A try from Ben Adams, converted by Fraser, stretched the New Zealanders lead before they rounded off the scoring with a try from Matt Mustchin, converted by Fraser to seal a comfortable victory.
