Gala 28 Villager 5
Melrose Rugby Sevens Final

Gala secured the 109th Melrose Sevens with a stunning victory over South African Visiting side Villager RFC. Having beaten the other South African side Stellenbosch in the semi-final, Gala dominated the field after going behind after a minute to a Byron Bell try.

The Maroons lead 14-5 at the interval, through tries from Tom Weir and a stunning run from Chris Paterson, named man of the tournament, which saw him go the length of the pitch to score. The superiority of Gala was confirmed in the second half with two further tries. First Kevin Ames took advantage of Villagers' back handling to score, and then David Gray rounded it off with a try in injury time.
