Melrose Horticultural Association2011 FLOWER SHOW IS ON SATURDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER IN OUR NEW VENUE MELROSE PARISH The annual flower show is held on the second Saturday in September and has been going since 1840. It includes classes for cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and vegetables, floral art, baking and needlecraft and a special section for children. The earliest schedule of the show we have dates back to 1881 and it gives a fascinating insight into the social life of Melrose and its surroundings well over a hundred years ago. To run the show in 1881 there were 4 tiers of 'Guardians' i.e. Patrons, Patronesses, Honorary Committee and Acting Committee, and 2 classes of entrants - professional and amateur. Thankfully today's hardworking committee is considerably less formal - and there is one class open to all. We are researching our past history and when we have more information we will post on this website. The Association is entirely self-supporting, raising funds through an annual a plant sale in the Wynd in May. We produce annual accounts which are independently audited.
