Melrose townsfolk converge at Abbotsford House
The next point in the morning's pilgrimage is Abbotsford. The warm, personal relationship which Sir Walter Scott established with Melrose and its townsfolk has been continued since then, and each year the citizens pay tribute to the fact that to him, to his first great poem and to his successful efforts to save the abbey from collapse, Melrose owes the world-wide interest it enjoys. Sir Walter's charming descendants extend their customary generous welcome to the Melrosian and his retinue.
